AHD’s mission is to fundamentally change rural health care in Latin America by providing quality, sustainable medical services today and by training the rural health care leaders of tomorrow.

AHD’s Physician Residency and Nurse Training Program is conducted in partnership with local Ecuadorian universities.  These family physicians and nurses are trained to provide comprehensive care specific to the rural context.  They are tomorrow’s rural health care leaders.

Andean Health & Development plans to open a new facility in the grossly underserved city of Santo Domingo, Ecuador.  The new facility will consist of a 40-bed hospital, a Physician and Nurse Training Center, and a Global Health Research Center.

Hospital Pedro Vicente Maldonado opened in 2000 to provide much needed health care to an underserved village in Ecuador.  Seven years later, the hospital was 100% financially self-sustaining.
